    Default Aircrew School RAF Methwold

    Hi all,

Anyone on the forum researched the above, trying to establish what went on here, what was the purpose of the school.

Did a quick but unsuccessful look on the NA web site to see if there are any records, drew a blank?

    Regards

    Steve,
Malcolm's RAFWEB gives a possible candidate as: "Detachment - No 3 Lancaster Finishing School (May - Jul 1944)". The dates may be connected with the various BC operations in OVERLORD?

    Hi Peter,

Thanks for the post, but the Aircrew School was posting crews to 3 LFS well in winter 1944.

    Hi Steve

Could it have been a Battle School, training crews in evasion techniques prior to joining a squadron. If 3 LFS had a backlog they might be put through such a course prior to completing Lancaster conversion?

    Hi Steve,

I am afraid no useful info in Sturtivat - RAF Fyling Training and Support Units since 1912, only pg. 44, 155:

No. 3 Group Aircrew School formed 10.44 at Linholme, 6.10.44 Shepherd Grove, 1.11.44 Gamston, 3.11.44 redesignated No. 3 Aircrew School on tranfer to No. 7 Group, further fate unknown.
