    Default Sergeant 626965 John Pennington Wolfenden.

    Another brick wall hit here in my research for the "Airmen of West Lancs Roll of Honour", The above named airman, a flight Engineer, was only added to WR CHORLEYS in an amendment in 2008. Commemorated in his home village of Banks but interred at Bootle, the circumstances of his death seem a mystery. Has anyone crossed paths with the story of this chap at any point? Any advice appreciated....Thanks in advance....Alan.

    EDIT - the Liverpool Echo of September 24th 1942 had the following announcement:

    WOLFENDEN - Sept. - accidentally killed on duty, JOHN PENNINGTON (Sergt., R.A.F.), dearly beloved son of Emma Scott and the late William Wolfenden. Funeral at Bootle Cemetery, on Monday next, at 4 p.m., from 2 Gloucester Road, Bootle.
