    Default Sergeant Joseph Lowe

I am trying to get a copy of my father's DFM Citation. His name is 541411 Flight Sergeant Joseph Lowe. I think he was awarded the DFM in 1942 while he was in 218 Sqdn = also served in 236 Sqdn and was ADC at RAF West Kirby

From the Yorkshire Post, September 23rd 1942:

The D.F.M. is awarded to Flight Sergeant Joseph Lowe, No. 218 Squadron, who was born at Castleford and whose home is in Leeds. As air gunner, Flight Sergeant Lowe has completed a large number of sorties in Blenheim and Stirling aircraft. During these operations he has been engaged in combat on no fewer than eight occasions. On one occasion, while patrolling near Cherbourg in a formation of three Blenheims, two Messerschmitt 109s were shot down as a result of the combined efforts of the three air gunners. On another occasion, during an attack on Koln, Flight Sergeant Lowe's accuarate shooting drove off enemy aircraft which attempted to atttack. He was a moulder before enlisting in June, 1937.

    Hi David
Any chance you can place a photograph of him on the forum.
He flew blenheims with 236 squadron during the Battle of Britain.
Jack Toombs flew with him and told me that your father had a bad bike accident after drinking too much scrumpy and ended up in hospital near St Eval.
    Regards
    Gerry

    Hi Gerry,
I would be pleased to. Jack's story sounds just like my old man. If he has any stories, I would love to hear them. I am going to try and get hold of his Service Record if I can. I'm also interested in anyone who knew him at West Kirby (where I was born)
    All the best
    David

    Hi David,

Following on from Gerry's post, I too would be grateful to see a photograph of your father. My interest is his time with no.218 (Gold Coast) Squadron.

    Kind regards

    Hi Steve,
I've accepted your friend request. I am having trouble uploading on to the RAF Forum site but have shared a couple of photos with Gerry. Are you researching or did you serve with him on 218?
