Can anyone help me please regarding the death of Pilot Officer Robert Vevers, 87653 on 28 November 1940.
He is named on the Runnymede Memorial and is listed on the CWGC database as Royal Air Force but without a squadron number.
He was promoted from Leading Aircraftman 976937 with effect from 3 November 1940 (LG 3/12/1940)
The Scottish National War Memorial gives his place of birth as Dunfermline in Fife and he was born there in 1915.
He is named on the family gravestone in Dunfermline Cemetery. However the only war memorial to name him is Langholm in Dumfriesshire where he attended both Langholm and Dumfries Academies before living in Edinburgh.

The local newspaper in December 1940, in reporting that he is missing, mentions him joining the RAF in February "last" and I'm wondering if that means 1939 (pre-war) hence he is RAF rather than RAFVR????

Any information would be most welcome.
Cheers
Ken
