    Default Serial number identification

    Hello all,

Id like to ask you for help with identification of serial number of the RAFs Stinson L-1 Vigilant. Part of the serial number is visible from the photo of this aircraft: H(K?) 827 with individual letter J. Any service history information of this aircraft will be very helpful. Propably it was aircraft of the No 225 squadron.

Any idea will be warmly appreciated

    best wishes

    Milan,
Not HK827, as according to RAF Military Serial allocations, HK827 was givn to a captured JU87 B-1, also covered in an old posting on this site back in 2005.

    Milan,
Not sure how common this was but, unless it's my imagination, on looking very close there appears to be two smaller letters after the numbers, which look like XY,
Just found reference to Stinson Reliant 1 serials FK814 to FK999

Alan, slip of the finger there, I think. The serial range you refer to is to FK999, not NK.

    From Joe Bauer's site: http://home.att.net/~jbaugher/1942_2a.html

    "42-46640/46889 Stinson AT-19
C/n 77-1/77-250. For Britain under Lend-Lease as Reliant I FK814/999, FL100/FL163. Believe that many of these were returned to the USA either late in the war or shortly thereafter."

When I looked at this photo carefully (enlarged in Photoshop), the first digit seems to be an '8' not an H. This, of course, makes no sense if this is one of the a/c above. So, from my viewing it looks like "8?827". The small marks after are barely visible but the first does look like an 'x'.

Fleet Air Arm had 500 of these, serials FB523-FB772 and FK814-FL163.

I'm wondering if this is a civil aircraft reg. no. on an a/c that has been painted in war time paint scheme.

    Default Serial Number Identification

    Hello,

    Vultee Vigilant.
    BZ100 to BZ195
    only ten delivered to RAF
    BZ109 and BZ111 to BZ195 not delivered.
But BZ117 and BZ154 reached Middle East and were allotted HK925 and HK926 locally.
    FR401 to 404
HK925 to HK930 All with Western Desert Communication Unit.
    HL429 to HL432 ( FR401 to 404 renumbered ).
    HL433 to HL528 Cancelled.

    ref: AB RAF serial series

So could it be HK927 ?
