    Default 607 Sqn losses 12th Feb 1942

On the 12th February 1942 607 Sqn lost four Hurricane IIB aircraft during an attack on escort vessels to the Scharnhorst, Gneisenhau and Prince Eugen.

Flt Sgt Edward Preston Walker was lost in the morning, failing to locate the escort vessels, having been vectored too far south, he instead scored a direct hit on a flak ship but was shot down.

In the afternoon a further attempt was made to locate the escort vessels and attacks were carried out on some tankers with Flt Sgt Noel McClean, W/O Rupert John Ommanney and P/O Ernest John Staerck all being lost.

The ORB for 607 Sqn fails to identify the aircraft involved. Can anyone help ID the aircraft and who they were being flown by?

    Many thanks,

    Jim

I have a photo of BE498 as AF.K. Also B??22 as AF.C, and although not required here BE505 as AF.L The picture of AF.C includes a number of pilots, one named as Sgt. Enoch Walker. The source is the daughter of the late J.W.Brooks.

Many thanks for confirming John and Graham. I am interested in anything 607 Sqn related so I would be interested in seeing those photos and hearing more of what you might have Graham.
