Default 607 Sqn losses, linking pilots to aircraft

Further to my post the other day where I was trying to link 607 pilots to the aircraft they were lost in, I have identified more:

    Europe

Sgt Walter Carr Lees (1108738) - lost 02/11/1941
    P/O Andrew Young McColl McCombe (69434) - lost 06/11/1941
    F/O Keith Lloyd Davies (87365) - lost 27/11/1941
Sgt Winston Ernest Hovey (R/73296) - lost 27/11/1941
    Sgt Russell Weir (1058556) - lost 27/11/1941
Sgt Arthur Lloyd Lewis (R/60363) - lost 05/12/1941
    Sous-Lt Jean-Pierre Cravoisier (30046) - lost 05/12/1941

    India/Burma

Flt Sgt Harry Lewis Gill (R/64935) - lost 17/01/1943
    P/O Lim Shai Main (1021) - lost 20/03/1943
    P/O George William Paul (J/17914) - lost 15/05/1943 possibly Hurricane HW430
    W/O George Sole (404418) - lost 20/01/1944
    W/O George Field Buck (1375762) - lost 29/12/1944
    W/O Raymond Newsam (1452618) - lost 19/02/1945
Flt Lt John Alfred Round (138653) - lost 05/06/1945
    F/O James Richard Andrew (172188) - lost 25/06/1945

According to the CWGC F/O Johnston Roger Patterson Shaw (161664) was serving with 607 Sqn when he died on 14/03/1945. However I can find no mention of him in the 607 ORB for this period and I can only assume he died with another unit, can anyone confirm?

    Many thanks,

    Jim

    Hi Col,

Thanks for that list, it has cleared a couple of them off. I wasn't aware of that post, I might be able to contribute some information once I get my records in order.

    Jim,

Re: F/O Johnston Roger Patterson SHAW RAFVR.

Here is what I have on my books:

    14-3-1945
    No.28 Sqn
    Harvard IIB FT370

Missing in cloud - last reported position, Thazi, Burma, 23.08N:94.05E

161664 F/O (Pilot) Johnston Roger Patterson SHAW RAFVR - Missing

    Commemorated on the Singapore Memorial.

Could mean one of several things - Shaw was on the strength of 607 Sqn, and borrowed the aircraft, and so on. Harvard FT370 had previously served with 607 Sqn!

You need the No.28 Sqn ORB to confirm - Jagan, can you assist?

And for 1452618 W/O Raymond NEWSAM.

    19-2-1945
    No.607 Sqn
    Spitfire VIII MT763

Missing - last reported position, 10m S of Saigang, Burma, 21.47N:95.56E

1452618 W/O (Pilot) Raymond NEWSAM RAFVR - Missing.

    Commemorated on the Singapore Memorial.

    Many thanks John and Col.

That's my list cleared off for now.

I have some apparent ground personnel on my list too. Will any of you have info on these if I post them?
