Default F/O Brian Norman Audric 142704

Between 1940 and 1943 Brian Audric was a civilian member of the IDA Unit at the Met Office HQ in Dunstable before being mobilised on 1 April 1943. The IDA Unit was a secret set-up responsible for decyphering meteorological broadcasts transmitted between Germany and its Allies (https://www.rmets.org/sites/default/...df/hist02a.pdf).

He is almost invisible in BMD, but I have found him arriving at Liverpool (ex Montreal) on the Empress of Britain on 16 September 1957. The passenger list gives his date of birth as 28 September 1921, but since he does not appear in BMD I'm thinking he must have been born abroad. Can any of our experts provide a steer as to his place of birth, please?

A family tree on ancestry.co.uk gives his date of birth as September 28 1921, in Hammersmith, London. The passenger manifest for the Empress of Britain (on the trip you refer to) is included in the listing, and confirms the date of birth and gives his country of birth as England. He is listed as a research chemist under occupation.

Thank you, Simon, I hadn't seen that. If it is England why the devil doesn't he come up in BMD (me thinking aloud)? I'll see if I can find the family tree.

Edit: Found it Simon, and thanks. It has him being born in Hammersmith. That ties in with some other clues I've found about his later life.

FreeBMD has him as Andric. I searched for the first name Brian, registered Dec. 1921 in Hammersmith.

Thank you, Terry, I'd seen the references, but my big problem was trying to find when/where he was born as he seemed invisible on BMD. He later became a research chemist and a number of his papers are retained by the National Archives.
