According to the Air Ministry form 78, Lancaster ED559 was Taken on Charge (ToC) on 8 February 1943. I always thought that this was also the day the bomber had arrived at RAF Grimsby.

However, I've been in contact with the AVRO Heritage Museum and their records state that the aircraft left Woodford for RAF Grimsby (home of 100 Squadron) on 3 February, 1943.

The squadron ORB mentions a number of Lancaster arrivals in February and those aircraft being with maintenance crews and non-operational. So, my question is, at what point does the RAF actually 'Take on Charge' the aircraft? After it has been tested etc by the maintenance crews, had test flights etc?

Just interested to know if there was a standard period between delivery and ToC being ascribed in the records.
