    Default No.83 Squadron, May-June 1944

Warrant Officer (later Flying Officer) Eric Plunkett, No.83 Squadron, was awarded a DFC as per London Gazette dated 18 August 1944. There was no published citation other than "completed...many successful operations against the enemy in which [he has] displayed high skill, fortitude and devotion to duty." Public Records Office Air 2/9632 had a recommendation dated 21 May 1944 and listing 42 sorties (281 hours 35 minutes), 4 May 1943 to 11 May 1944. However, his application for an Operational Wing dated 4 July 1944 stated he had flown 50 sorties (306 hours five minutes), 24 July 1943 to 14 June 1944. It is quite probable that he flew additional sorties between 12 May and 14 June 1944. I would appreciate anyone with access to No.83's ORB to enlighten me respecting these sorties (dates, targets, time flown). Thanks in advance.
