Default Master bombers Required Calais Sept 1944

    Dear all,

Bomber Command carried out a number of daylight attacks against Calais on the following dates. I am interested in confirming the M/B for the following aiming points.

    25th September Aiming Point 1C
    26th September Aiming Point 7D
    28th September Aiming Point 20

    Thank you in advance.

    Hi David,

Who was Longstop on the Sept 26th raid. It appears he saved the day ! Also can you please check the 26th September Aiming Point 7D - S/L JW Perry, 405 Squadron? I am not 100% sure this is correct.

    Thanks mate.

Steve - there two Long Stops on the 26th. W/C DB Falconer of 156 Squadron performed the role on Aiming Points 7B(1), 7B(2), 7C(2), 7A & 7D. W/C DB Cracknell of 35 Squadron was Long Stop on the earlier ones.

Perry is correct. The 405 ORB is fuzzy but readable, its also confirmed by the 8 Group Form B which reads:
    " A/P 7D Duration H 0 - H+6, H=12.40
    3/105 + 2/109 + M&D 405 + 3BU/405 +75/3GP"
The 405 Sqn ORB shows Perry over the target from 12:25 to 12:58 and released his TIs at 12.40.24 and had the main force cease bombing and orbit for a period while the smoke cleared.
