Default Increase in operational tours 1944

    Hi all,

Can anyone please tell me was there an official date the number of operations needed to be flown to complete an operational tour was increased in 1944. Or the date / directive of counting attacks on French targets only as 1/3. Was it prior to D-Day or after. Also when was it decided to discontinue. I have crews on 218 Squadron operational in October 44 with between 36 and 38 raids under their belt.

    TIA

    Hello Steve
to my understanding the heavy losses during the Mailly-Le-Camp attack (3/4 May 44) reinforced by the heavy losses during the Lille attack (10/11 May 44) killed the 1/3 rule for the French attacks. So the directive must have been given before May 44, but IIRC it was a shortlived rule, so maybe in April 44.
