I wondered if anyone here knew anything about the organisation of Brussels-Evere airport in September 1944? My grandfather J.C.Roberts (103296) was a Fight Lieutenant (Equipment) who we think may have been there to welcome the returning Belgian Government on the 8th of September. He had previously seen service at D-Day in one of the RAF Beach Squadrons. Unlike most of the rest of his team he didn't return to the UK in August '44 but stayed on the continent assigned to Special Duties under HQ AEAF. He may also have worked in Holland during 1945 and early 1946, again working on Special Duties. We think he was involved in helping the post-liberation Dutch Government with getting supply lines up and running again. If anyone has any ideas on this aspect of RAF activity in Europe from September 1944 to March 1946 it would be great to know.
