    Default Penwiper Mosquito's

    Hello ,

During the night off 24/25 march 1944 3 " Penwiper " Mosquito's flew an Oboe ops to the airfield off St-Trond in Belgium. What does did Penwiper means and wich squadron flew that night this mission.

“Penwiper” was a variation of an Oboe MK II reciever as was “Fountain Pen” along with “Album Leaf” which were being experimented with by both Oboe squadrons, 105 & 109 at that time. It was 105 Squadron that was detailed to make the attack on St. Trond that night, sending four Oboe Mosquitos with “Penwiper”. 105 Squadron also sent 4 Oboe Mosquitos to attack Venlo airfield that night, two were “Penwiper” and two were “Fountain Pen”, while 109 Squadron sent three Oboe Mosquitos to attack Juvincourt airfield, all three were “Album Leaf”
