    Default Lac Donald Harrison 1446343

    Trying to find where my father (name and rank in title)was based during ww2 . Units vary from 1660 con unit,1661,1668,44, all these on service records but doesnít say where units where based,any info would be appreciated thanks.

    Just a guess, but some of those might conceivably be HCUs (Heavy Conversion Units), where aircrew were trained on 4-engined aircraft such as Halifaxes, Stirlings and Lancasters. If that were the case, then their whereabouts can be identified. I looked up a Wikipedia page for the following:

    1660 HCU RAF Swinderby (Oct 1942-Nov 1946)
    1661 HCU RAF Winthorpe (Nov 1942-Aug 1945)
    1668 HCU RAF Balderton (Aug 1943-Nov 1943), then
    RAF Bottesford (July 1944-March 1946)

    Have to reiterate, this is just a guess though.
