Default Individual a/c letter - Lancaster JB307 of 156 (PFF) Sqn

    Dear all,

Lancaster JB307 of 156 (PFF) Sqn (P.O. Bond) was damaged by fighter attack whilst operating against Frankfurt on the night of 20th/21st December 1943. I have the details from the ORB and the Accident Card. Is anyone in a position to provide the individual aircraft code letter (GT-?) please? Would the 'Summary of A/C Damaged' contain this information?

    Many thanks in advance

    Hello,

The following needs substantiation - but it is something to work on:

    Lancaster Identities.

    156 Squadron.

    GT-H: ED734, JB307, LM344, ME366, ME377, NE132 & PB991.

    See:
    Avro Lancaster The Definitive Record
    Holmes,Harry
    Shrewsbury:Airlife Publishing,2001 (2nd ed.)
    p.95

    ED734---156--- Missing 26/07/1943
    JB307---405/156 ---Damaged 21/12/1943 - Missing 27/04/1944
    LM344---156---Missing 15/01/1944
    ME366---156---Missing 04/02/1945
    ME377---156/1654CU/1660CU/1653CU/RAE
    NE132---156/1653CU Ditched 06/02/1945
    PB991---156/582/35/156/35/149 SOC 22/05/1947

Of course, the above doesn't prove a thing!

    Jonny,

It would....if it existed. To date, the AIR14 "Summary of Aircraft Damaged " start at January 1944.

No sign of 1943 at TNA, yet Jan 1944's summary is "No. 27"

Jonny. Air 14/3460 has it as JB-307 D

I can confirm Richards reply as JB307 being "D", from the combat report submitted by a/g's Moon and Underwood.
