    Default Unit abbreviations help please

    Help please to clarify some units in the record of a radar op.

    (Bracketed together) - 15/20 Unit(?) 85 Grp Southwood Suffolk - 2 May 44 (next date is unreadable) It definitely says Southwood - can't find it, is this Southwold?

    BSU Chigwell - unreadable date 1944 (he is next in France in Dec 44 being admitted to 6 Canadian CCS)

    Thame PS - looks like Oct 45- Dec 45

    With thanks

    Hi

    The unit was probably 15120 AMES, a mobile GCI station, but a location on the UK before going to the Continent isn't given.

    BSU = Base Signals Unit

    My late father in law Henry Jensen, RNZAF, served with the above unit, as did his mate Ron Buckingham. I understand they were placed at Dulwich and Norwich. Their unit crossed into France via Omaha beach, I think in August 1944. I have one or two of his photographs with other service personnel.

    Mike,
    Dunwich is 3.5nm from Southwold. Norwich is 25nm from Southwold. All in the same general area.
