With regards to Wellington III - BK214 - CGS, the Fraserburgh Herald of July 16th 1946 reported the following:

A flying accident occurred recently which caused the death of Flight/Lieut. Squad./Gunnery Leader Allenby mathers, R.A.F.
The accident occurred during a mock batlle, in which F/Lt. Mathers was instructing a number of Student Cadets in a Wellington aircraft. A Spitfire crashed into the Wellington and a wing was torn off each plane. Mathers immediately sent a radio message to the base that an accident had occurred and he was attempting to save the lives of the Cadets. The Wellington, however, lost height quickly, crashed, and all were killed. The pilot of the Spitfire was also killed.

The Driffield Times of July 6th 1946 names the casualties as follows:

W/O K. Hinchcliffe, of Woods Avenue, Marsden, Huddersfield
F/O J. E. Harrison, Oldburgh Road, North Wembley, Middx.
F/Lt. A. Mathers, of King Street, Aberdeen.
W/O H. Edwards, of Hamilton Road, West Norwood, London.
F/Sgt J. Rickitts, of Cowame Street, Stirling.
F/Sgt. R. E. K. Hancock, of Martin Road, Smithfield, London.
A.C.2 Ballard, of Prescott Road, Northfield, Birmingham.
It names the Spitfire pilot as F/O Harrison.

COOK, Cyril Henry - LAC - 1659560 - the Bath Chronicle of July 13th 1946 reported the following:

Many friends of L.A.C. Cyril Henry Cook, whose parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. T. Cook, live at 12, Clarence Place, Lower Weston, Bath, were saddened to learn of his death in a London hospital on June 27, at the age of 24.

MacPHEE, Allan - AC2c - 1069288 - the Statutory Deaths Register on the Scotland's People website records that he died at 5.05 a.m. at 80 Garthland Drive, Glasgow, due to 'cardiac decompensation.'

    ROHLEDER, Arthur - LAC - 1294153 - registered Hackney.

WEBBER, Arthur John - LAC - 1255473 - registered Cardiff.

    JAPAN
GRAY, Anthony James - W/O(Pilot) - 1567857 - a family tree on acestry.co.uk states that "Anthony was serving in Japan as part of the Commonwealth occupation force when his Spitfire developed engine trouble and crashed into the sea." J. J. Halley's 'Broken Wings' gives Spitfire F.14 RM967.

    Regards

    Simon
