Default Warrant Officer Edward William Randall MBE (353288) RAF - MID

    Dear all,

Whilst recognizing this is a very long shot indeed, I am endeavoring to find out why Warrant Officer Edward William Randall (353288) RAF (later MBE) was awarded a MID in the NYH List 1/1/43. Edward was tried by the civil authority in October 1943 and the following passage appears in a period newspaper: 'An RAF Officer said in the 21 years Randall had been in the Air Force his record had been excellent. He had been recommended three times for a commission and had been mentioned in despatches for being instrumental in saving three lives from a crashed and burning aircraft.' Edward was at RAF Waddington as 'Messing WO' throughout 1942; the period in which, presumably, the aforementioned crash occurred.

Any assistance would be most gratefully received.

    Rgds and thanks

    Jonny, Hi,

Not much use, but might help?

As a Long Shot, try http://rafcwoa.moonfruit.com/history/4528144425. They might (rpt, might!) give you some info (or where to find it) - or just the usual DPA refusal.

    * Before I found this date, my experimental Enlistment program had given me 7 Nov 23.

    HTH. Good luck.

    Col,

Many thanks. Whilst there is no guarantee that Randall's supposed gallantry took place at Waddington, having looked through the incidents listed, and knowing that it would take some months for an MID rec to work its way through the system, the only one that really falls into the time frame is the crash of Wellington R1661 on 25/4/42. However there is no mention of a fire. Does anyone have access to the Waddington ORB regarding this incident please? Likewise, if you do, is there any mention of the MID rec for Randall in Jan 43?

    Sorry to be a pain!

    Rgds and thanks
