88416 Fg Off Hector DURO, 7 & 58 Sqns

This man served on 41 Sqn as an NCO pilot (364587) during 1929-30, but I cannot glean more exact dates from the Sqn ORB.

However, other sources suggest that he was with 58 (B) Sqn from at least June 1932 (see the sqn photo at: https://www.flightglobal.com/pdfarch...ml?search=Duro), and possibly as early as 1930. Does anyone have the 58 Sqn ORB, or a similar source, to suggest when he joined the unit, please?

Duro was commissioned in Aug 40, and promoted to Fg Off in Oct 42. However, he was shot down and killed in 7 Sqn Stirling I, R9262, MG-A, on 21 Dec 42. Whilst I have the details of his loss, what I have been unable to establish is when he joined the unit. Was it perhaps when he was commissioned in Aug 40? Can anyone assist with his date of arrival, please?

I assume you know he had served with B.O.A.C.? He was fined for importing currency without declaring it in August 1941, as reported in the Manchester Evening News on August 7th 1941, in which he is described a 'former first officer with British Airways Corporation.' It also states that he 'had served in the present war until released for Britsh Airways Corporation.'

In early 1937 he was at North Weald, as he was nicked for speeding and fined £1, as reported in the Chelmsford Chronicle, March 12th 1937.
