    Default Operation Dodge

    Hi,

    Sorry me again !

Can anyone please tell me when the first recorded flight of operation Dodge was undertaken. I have 218 Squadron carrying out a trial flight on July 24th to Bari, was this the first of its type?

    TIA

No. 35 Squadron's first operation was on 28th July (two aircraft) ... but no passengers were brought back

    Steve,

100 Squadron's first effort on "Dodge" was the 31st of July - 3 a/c and crews to Bari, 2 a/c and crews to Pomliagano.

On the return flights, they stopped off at RAF Glatton near Peterborough to drop off their passengers before returning to Elsham.

    I don't think so.

No. 101 Squadron sent two on 24 July. The ORB has a note that "28 from other stations on Dodge" same day.

Thanks for that, so it was not confined to 3 Group. What time did 101 depart ?

Doesn't say, nor are any serials offered. Nor crews. After 11 May 1945 the ORB is pretty barren.

Edit: The Ludford Magna Station ORB is a little more generous.

24 July: 30 aircraft were airborne on preliminary transport flight to Italy. All aircraft landed safely at POMIGLIANO
26 July: Aircraft on preliminary transport flight were airborne from POMIGLIANO, ETA GLATTON 1615 hrs. No passengers were carried. One a/c remained at GLATTON (D2, 626) due to internal coolant leak and another (L, 300) was instructed to land at CARNABY due to vibration of the undercarriage on takeoff at GLATTON.
28 July: Operation DODGE will commence 31st July, 14 Base will be duty base on the 1st of August. STURGATE to join 14 Base for these operations.

31 July: Operation Dodge was laid on for 1st August, 4 aircraft of 101 Squadron, 3 aircraft of 12 Squadron, 3 aircraft of 300 Squadron and 5 aircraft from STURGATE to POMIGLIANO. 3 aircraft of 626 Squadron for BARI. Guns and ammunition are to be removed from these aircraft.

August is chock full of info on various aspects of Dodge. Crashed aircraft etc. I can email you the pages later today if that helps.
