Default Flt Sgt Callender RCAF (VC!) February 15th 1944

Whilst looking for a set of medals to show a relative at the Tangmere Military Aviation Museum, I came across a rather odd thing. Laying by its self, with no box was a replica VC. This in itself was not unusual, but on turning it over, expecting to see 'Replica' stamped on it, I was shocked to see it had been engraved!

It only took a few seconds to realise that the 'recipient' was not on the list of VC holders and also the engraving is far from what one expects from a Crown Jewellers!

The date was a very heavy raid on Berlin, I wonder if his crew might of had it made for doing something on that night. I don't recall seeing a service number, but if there is any interest in this odd story, I'll take a photo of the replica and post it here.

Nothing on the R.C.A.F. Association website for any award to a Callender, or indeed Callendar, Calender or Calendar:

Thanks guys, I drew a blank too, I'll pop up a photo next week. Maybe it's some in crew joke, I know there's a good story behind this, would be nice to discover what it was.
