Please, I need help to find photos of two Mosquitos Mk.VI of 605.Sq.
UP-B and UP-T, and their factory serial markings.

    Thank you!

    Hi Marko

I can't help with photos but UP-B was applied to HX823 but it may also have been applied to other aircraft in the squadron.

It was from 'Fighter Squadrons of the RAF' by J D R Bowyer

Have your questions about photos of 605Sqn Mosquitos been dealt with before?

There is a website 605squadron.co.uk which includes lists of squadron aircraft including Mosquito VI along with code letters. It is run by Ian Piper who has published a book about 605Sqdn which it seems you can still buy. If Ian Piper is the expert on 605Sqdn then his book seems to indicate that there are very few photos of identifiable Mosquito VI.

    Good evening Steve!

thank you for comment. I am in contact with Ian Piper and wait for his book to arrive. I have started research of one event in National Archives and IWM and had found great details. What I still miss and look for is to identify Mosquito UP-B and find a photograph of it.

I presume that each RAF aeroplane had log book and wonder if and where are they now preserved?

I have found contradictory data on HX823, that it had UP-K code, as per:

    Hi Marko

The problem is codes were not specific to a specific aircraft and could change if moved between flights or repaired, so HX823 could have had more than one code, similarly 'B' could have been carried by more than one aircraft.

That I understand. What I do not know is was there any kind of document that would have signed in both code and serial marking? There must have been an official log book for each aeroplane. It may contain data on unit with date and possibly unit code?

Please, do you have 'Fighter Squadrons of the RAF' by J D R Bowyer?
Is there a photograph of this Mosquito in it?

    Hi Marko

There isn't a photo of a Mosquito VI in the book.

Each aircraft had a Form 700 (Maintenance record), this may have had a note of the code carried as specific time but I don't know. These were possibly destroyed when the aircraft was struck off charge or after a period of time.

Sqn ORBs sometimes give the serial/code tie up but not always.
