    Default Spitfire AD463 - 121 or 234 Squadron - missing in 1942

    Hi,

The orb of 121 Squadron mentions for 8 March 1942:

    Form 540
12 Spitfires of our Squadron took off on a Wing weep over France, heavy flak experienced and while between Cassel and Poperinge. P/O. Jones of this Squadron was shot down, his aircraft was last seen under control with glycol fumes pouring out. Nothing has been heard of him since. The Wing Commander Flying from here was also shot down. (See my report on operations.) P/O. Daley claims a damaged Me109 when he attacked that aircraft as it was shooting at P/O. Jones aircraft
    Form 541 :
    A.D.463 P/O.Jones Duty: sweep Time Up: 15.00

AD463 is mentioned several times in this ORB on previous dates.

The orb of 234 Squadron mentions for 24 April 1942:
    Form 540 :
The Squadron operating from Tangmere together with 501 and 118 Squadrons carried out a fighter sweep over the French coast at Buck Su Mer. Seven of our aircraft became separated from the main formation when reaching the French coast and were attacked from above and astern by 20 F.W.190ís. Black and Red Sections (F/Lt. Watkins (U.S..A) F/Sergt.Fisher (Can), P/O. Svendsen,(Danish) and Sgt.Machan (Canadian) are missing from this operation.
    Form 541 :
AD463 Sergt.Machan Duty: sweep Time Up: 13.50 Sweep French Coast Buck Su Mer (missing)

AD463 is also mentioned several times in this ORB on previous dates.

Which orb is correct ? Which was the serial of the other Spitfire ?

Many thanks in advance and best regards

Air Britain records that AD463 was on charge to 121 and then 234Sqns... it was on 234Sqn when it was lost.

    Hello

Phil Listemann in his monograph on 121 (Eagle)Squadron (p.5), claims that J15052 P/O William L C JONES RCAF (US) was shot down in Spitfire VB AB206:AV-S (BIHAR VI), and became a POW.

    See: Gifts of War/Boot & Sturtivant p.67.

    Steve and Col.,

Many thanks for your replies !

The orb of 121 Squadron is clearly not correct.

    Best regards
