Default 07171 Wg Cdr William Vincent HYDE

Born in London, 23 Mar 98, this man was commissioned in the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers in Apr 1915, and seconded to the RFC in Sep 1917.

He was granted a Short Service Commission in May 1920, and served in 4 Sqn (1920), 3 Sqn (1920-23), 41 Sqn (1923-25), and then 3 Sqn again (1925-when?). The next posting I can find for Hyde is to RAF Gosport in Apr 1931. While possible, I think six years on 3 Sqn is highly unlikely. Does anyone have an Air Force list from between 1925 and 1931 to check where he was, please? Searches of Flight have drawn a blank.

Following his posting to RAF Gosport in Apr 1931, I next find him attending an armament course at Eastchurch in Jan 1936, followed by a posting to 151 Sqn in Aug 1936. Again, while possible, it is unlikely he would have spent five years at Gosport. Searches of Flight have again drawn a blank. Does anyone have AFLs for the period 1931 to 1936 to check where he was, please?

Following his tenure with 151 Sqn, Hyde was promoted to Wg Cdr and posted to Henlow as OC Training Wing on 10 Nov 38, and was there until at least Mar 39. Does anyone have any visibility of his postings from Mar 1939 to Nov 1946, when he retired as a Wg Cdr?

Hyde died at Bexhill-on-Sea in Mar 1976.

Any assistance with his postings 1925-31, 1931-36, and 1939-46 would be appreciated.

    Thanks
    Steve
