    Default Beaufighter JL852 19 September 1943

    Thanks Henk,

I wondered why I couldn't find him in the CWGC site.

    Default Beaufighter JL852 Crash

I was asked by a friend to help get photos of these 2 crew members for a memorial event. First time I've been involved in anything like this. In trying to get details about the crash, I, too was intrigued by the difficulty in finding whether the pilot had survived.
On further research into the aircraft, I came across the fact that JL852 seems to have been re-numbered A19-116 when transferred to the RAAF in May '43 and then crashed in Australia in September '43, according to these sites:

    http://home.st.net.au/~dunn/nt62.htm
    http://www.adf-serials.com/2a19.shtml

Nor is J. MacGREGOR - J/23226 on the Rummymede memorial, which lists all lost "Empire" airmen.
So could the aircraft number be wrong?
Has anyone else followed the Australia lead?

    Hello.

    A19-116 was ex-JL582, not JL852.

ORB confirms the details given by Keith and others on this thread.

Pilot P/O J McGregor survived the crash and tried to reach the navigator P/O R L Church but the aircraft sank before this could be done.

As a survivor of the crash P/O McGregor would not be commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial.

F1180 confirms McGregor as RCAF J/23226

Thanks, Col. What a stupid mistake for me to make.... I said I was a beginner.

    Thanks, too, to Ross.
