    Default England map location 1940.

    Hello,
Could anyone please help me with a 1940 map location quoted in an RAF document ? The grid reference given is 'F.1465'. I think it is in Lincolnshire or Nottinghamshire.

    Regards,

    Martin Gleeson.

    Hello Martin,
Does it say which map is being used?

Nice one Mikkel, good tool. So just west of Plymouth; Martin, does it fit?

    I got a point

    NV of Nottingham.

But excellent tool. Someone guided me to it a few years back on a similar question on the Continent.

    Mikkel and Bruce,

Thanks very much for your help and the useful links. The location near Nottingham looks right.

There was no indication as to which map was being used, just 'F.1465'.

    Regards,

    Martin.

    That's weird. Put those co-ordinates (Latitude : 52 59' 58'' N, Longitude : 0 59' 19'' W) into Google maps and a spot just west of Plymouth comes up.
Anyway, I like the tool and have already used it to solve another small mystery.

    Dear all,

For a good visual representation, using the excellent map resources on McMaster University, from the England & Wales series GSGS3907 http://library.mcmaster.ca/maps/ww2/...les_ndx63k.htm sheet 54, grid F1465 puts it in the vicinity of the village of Caythorpe. See attached link http://digitalarchive.mcmaster.ca/is.../macrepo:66375

Plenty of map browsing on that website!

    Kind regards
    Pierre
