Default More information sought on 1 PRU Pilots

Trying to trace more information on a few 1 PRU Pilots, active in 1941/42. Pilots as follows:

    TOMLINSON
    LEE
    JONES

I believe there might have been two TOMLINSONS possibly as I think I saw one lost on operations, and another flying some weeks later! I believe they were all Benson based rather than the outstations.

Any help or pointers most welcome

Oh blimey, thank you Andy. I will refer back to my notes from the National Archive and see if I can refine things slightly! I'm not sure it was legible or I'd have the info already.

Who would have thought so many people of the same name in the same squadron!

    Stby, I'll be back

Ok, I have some luck, but some questions.

I have F/O Lee (as of November 41)
I have F/Sgt Tomlinson (as of December 41)
I have Sgt Jones (as of November 41)

Andy would those ranks at those dates fit with your records and narrow down the likely people? details taken from 1 PRU ORB

You have to remember that by 1942 1 PRU comprised of nine operational flights and two training flights, a very large organisation.

F/O Lee (as of Nov41) is Edward Dewar Lyell LEE
F/S Tomlinson (as of Dec41) is Robert Duncan Campbell TOMLINSON
Sgt Jones (as of Nov41) is Mervyn Anthony JONES. Sgt William Morris Owen JONES did not join 1 PRU until Apr42.

Superb Andy, this is excellent. I will do some more research! Do you have a significant archive of 1 PRU? I recently tried to find the operations centre in Ewelme, I believe it was called “Old Mansion” back then but of the block of houses in the lane, there was only a “New Mansion”. Do you know if it was renamed, or demolished since the war?

    Hi FB,

The PRU has been my primary area of research for many years now. Regarding Ewelme I believe the various buildings associated the the PRU during WWII have been demolished, but I'm not 100% certain.
