CROSS, Hubert David - LAC - 2282559 - the Gloucester Citizen of October 10th 1946 reported the following:

R.A.F. MAN'S FATAL FALL FROM TENDER
When a plane made a crash landing on Aston Down aerodrome, near Stroud, a fire tender which was stading by rushed to the scene. As the tender was racing across the aerodrome, one of the crew fell off and received fatal injuries. He was L.A.C. Hubert Cross (31), married, of Coventry. He was taken to the R.A.F. Hospital at Wroughton where he died on Tuesday.

HERRICK, Fred - AC2c - 2229885 - the Lincolnshire Echo of 11th October 1946, reported the following, also involving a fire tender:

Hit Bomb Bay - City Man Killed
An R.A.F. fire tender crash in a bomb bay on Tuesday afternoon, causing the death of of one of its crew, was described at the inquest at Goxhill yesterday, on Acm. Fred Herrick (25), of St. Peter's Avenue, Lincoln.
The Grimsby District Coroner (Mr. H. A. Howden), recorded a verdict of "Accidental death."
P.C. Dolling said he found the fire tender lying on its side in one of the bomb bays on the north side of Goxhill R.A.F. Station. The road intersected a number of these bomb bays, which are protected on each side by sloping blast walls.
The driver of the tender, 19 year old Acm. Bramwell Charles Wickens, stated that he was about the enter the bomb bay travelling at 20 m.p.h. He could not remember what happened next, except that there was a loud crash, and he was trying to clamber out of the tender. He switched off and called out to Herrick, but there was no answer.
Getting out, he found Herrick pinned under the tank of the tender. It was impossible to release him, so he ran across the aerodrome to the motor section and fetched a crane.
Flying Officer Kenneth Charles Curle, Officer Commanding No. 223 M.U., R.A.F., Goxhill, said the fire tender was a sluggish vehicle on account of its heavy equipment, and required quite a distance to pick up speed. It was not fast and, at the point at which the accident occurred, would not have been able to reach a high speed.

Re: 2282559 LAC Hubert David CROSS.

Looks like this was the incident that caused his fatal injuries (7-10-1946 1796204 F/Sgt Hugh Thomas Joseph DOYLE Inj - P2 H T J Doyle was killed on 31-5-1948, in the crash of No.26 Sqn Tempest PR687 at the Haustenbeck Range, Germany.):

The Tempest and Typhoon Story by Thomas & Shores has Tempest PR679, destroyed in landing accident at Aston Down, F/Sgt H. Doyle as the pilot.

Hello,
Many thanks for these answers, however this now opens out to investigate just which a/c Sgt. Doyle was in ?
Air Brit PA100 - PZ999 has -
PR679 - 26 - Overshot landing and overturned, Aston Down. 7.10.46; SS 29.8.47.
And
PR687 - 26 - Stalled recovering from RP dive and dived into ground, Haustenbeck ranges, 31.5.48.

So looks like PR679, but just maybe PR687 may have been returned to service and continued with 26 until 1948 ?

George Shepherd 1564632 , attached to Number 1 PHU, was admitted dangerously ill to RAF Hospital Innsworth on 27 September, where he died of heamatemesis and a sub arachnoid haemorrhage
