265696 F/L Horace GALLAWAY MiD RAAF (ex-RAAF HQ.North-Western Area, Amberley, Queensland) had been officially discharged from the RAAF on 10 January, 1946. He passed away at 113th Australian General Hospital, Concord, N.S.W. from an unspecified illness on 29 October, 1946. The citation for his mention simply reads, For Gallant and Distinguished Service in the North-Western Area.

The Lancashire Evening Post of November 5th 1946 reported the following:

KILLED IN PLANE CRASH
Mr. and Mrs. T. Halliwell, of Railway View, Southport, have been notified that their son, Lieutenant Joseph H. Halliwell, Fleet Air Arm, has lost his life in a flying ccident off the Irish coast, his plane crashing into the sea three miles outside Londonderry.
Lieutenant Halliwell, who was transferred to the Fleet Air Arm from the Navy, had been serving about five years and was in Tokio Bay with the American Fleet when the Japanese signed the armistice.
He was married a few months ago to an Australian girl.
