    Default 26172 Sqn/Ldr Lawrence Belchem, kia 14 July 1942 with 119 Squadron

    Hi all,

Does anyone have details of the loss of the above-named Officer please? He appears on one of my local war memorials, and I'm helping a local historian put together a small bio of all the RAF chaps who are on that memorial. I'm aware of his details from "Men of the Battle of Britain" by Kenneth Wynn, but can't find anything on Google about his death.

    Many thanks,

    Greg

Don't know if it is any help, Greg, but the aircraft was the subject of a thread on RAF Commands in 2011, see http://www.rafcommands.com/forum/sho...Catalina-AH545

Thanks Brian. I was going to order the 119 ORB for July 1942, but the thread you linked to mentions the loss isn't covered, so no point in me doing that!! Belchem had a brother who served with the 2/16 Punjab Regiment at Singapore, and was killed in February 1942. The family were struck by a double tragedy in the space of a few months...
