Default 166 Squadron Veteran shot down in 1944 to appear on Jeremy Vine show Wed 25/07/18

A heads up for those that are interested and who can listen between 13.00 and 14.00 this Wednesday 25/07/18 Jeremy Vine Radio 2. A young 96 year old, one of only 2 crew survivors to get out of their plane after it was hit was hit by a Night Fighter over a heavily defended German target. Sadly I cant give anymore details than that!

That sounds very interesting. For the benefit of all non-UK readers, you can listen live on the BBC online service. They now ask you to register to listen but it seems harmless (usual disclaimer):

    Thanks for the heads-up.

It's available on iPlayer now, for the next 29 days:

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0bbsfzj

The interview is with W/Op John Martin of 166 Sqn, and starts at 1:08:40 into the programme. It's January 30th 1944, not January 13th as Jeremy Vine says in the intro, and the aircraft involved is Lancaster DV406 - BCL 1944, page 67.

    Regards

    Simon
