KISTNER, Ernst - GAF - the Nottingham Journal of Novemebr 19th 1946 reported the following:
3 P.o.W.s Dead in Crash
Quest for Midland Lorry Driver
Three Germans were fatally injured in a crash on a Leicestershire road yesterday. Police of several counties last night strove to contact a Midlands lorry driver who was continuing his journey to London unaware that three men lay dead as the result of an accident in which he had been involved.
The dead men, Ernst Kistner (21), Daniel Wittner (35), and Wilhelm Kreuger (34), were members of a party of German prisoners of war who were travelling in a lorry from Lindley Camp to Market Bosworth.
On a lonely stretch of road they came into collision with another lorry driven by E. F. Payne, of Stanton Hill, and owned by Vale Bros., Stanton Hill.
Both vehicles were able to proceed after the accident, and Payne, apparently not knowing that three of the prisoners were seriously injured, went on his way to London, stopping at Nuneaton to report the accident to the police there.
In the meantime the injured men were taken to Market Bosworth, where Kistner and Wittner died in the surgery of Dr. Kelly. Kreuger, and a fourth man, George Meunst (31), who received minor injuries, were taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary. Kreuger died there shortly afterwards. Meunst was discharged after treatment.
Regards
Simon
