Default Fly Off William Symington Pryde

    Hi,

Does anyone know the reason behind the loss of F/O Pryde, 37690 on 24/09/39? The CWGC doesn't give a unit.

William was one of three brothers from Anstruther, Fife who lost their lives whilst serving in the RAF. The other two were S/L David Douglas Pryde, 39564, DFC and S/L George Archibald Marshall Pryde, 32232, DFC.

    Regards,

    Alex

Times says killed on active service, and that he had previously served with a home bomber squadron and an armanent training school

    Hi Alex

Believed to be the crash of Harvard N7067 at Newton, Sleaford, also thought to be a casualty in this incident is Hayes, AB.

    Alex,
'David Douglas' was on Whitley BD195 and 'George Archibald Marshall' on Blenheim L9334. Strange that Allison in his "They Shall Grow Not Old" on page 619 has 'David Douglas' from Winnipeg, Manitoba.
    Regards,
    Henk.

    Hi guys,

Thanks for your replies, much appreciated.

From what I have found already.

David Douglas was with 77 Sqn when he was lost on 9 June 1942. At the time the squadron was attached to Coastal Command.

George Archibald Marshall was lost while ferrying a Blenheim from Marignane to Malta on 19 June 1940.

    Regards,

    Alex
