    Default No.12 OTU Wellington crash?

    Hi,

Looking for details on Wellington 'J' of No.12 OTU. I have the log book of the wireless operator who records, 'Bullseye, landed by parachute, engine trouble'. The date was August 18th 1943, pilot F/Sgt Gillies RAAF.

    Any details most welcome.

    Steve,
Your "Aussie" Pilot, undoubtedly, AUS416759 Leonard Scott GILLIES RAAF. I have no record of him, personally, being a member of the "Caterpillar Club". All that means, is that he probably did not bale out, but one/some of his crew did, or he did not apply for membership!

Leonard Scott Gillies passed away on 31 March, 2008, aged 89.

    Hi Col,

I had my doubts about it crashing, but I also have a copy of the rear gunners log book, he records that the aircraft was shot up by flak ship in Wellington 'J' but on July 18th 1943. He records that he parachuted out landing at Cransfield. All slightly strange. !

    Steve,

Are you at liberty to mention the rear gunners name?
