Default Leipzig February 19th February 1944

    Hi,

Trying to establish what squadrons from No.1, 4, 5 and 100 Group participated on this raid.

I have A Coopers book but it does not give details on each groups contribution.

    Any help appreciated.

    TIA

    Steve

    Hi Steve,
According to 1 Group ORB, 170 Lancasters of that group were sent to Leipzig that night from following squadrons:
    460 Sqn - 24 a/c, 625 Sqn - 17 a/c, 100 Sqn - 17 a/c, 103 Sqn - 15 a/c, 576 Sqn - 15 a/c, 166 Sqn - 22 a/c, 550 Sqn - 14 a/c, 101 Sqn - 21 a/c, 12 Sqn - 12 a/c and 626 Sqn - 10 a/c despatched.

    4 Group ORB gives the following squadrons participating in this attack: 10 Sqn - 17 a/c, 51 Sqn - 18 a/c, 77 Sqn - 14 a/c, 87 Sqn - 21 a/c, 640 Sqn - 17 a/c, 102 Sqn - 20 a/c, 158 Sqn - 16 a/c, 466 Sqn - 17 a/c and 578 Sqn - 13 a/c despatched.

5 Group ORB unfortunately does not indicate the squadrons involved except the number of 214 Lancasters despatched that night.

Hope that you would find it of help.
    Regards,
    Greg

    Hi Steve,
Link below is to the online Microfilm reel for Bomber Command for the Leipzig raid on 19/02/44 and gives a breakdown by Group of Aircraft and squadrons.
    Hope this helps,
    Alan.
