    Default 956979 R F Harding

This man's name appears in the London Gazette on his being mention in despatches in the New Year's Honour List for New Year's Day 1945.

Can anyone assist in providing his full name, please?

    TIA

    Errol,

    Robert Frederick Harding 956979 (F) - TNA

There's a lot of 'em in FREEBMD, but using a TPQ of 1922 the best bets are:-

    Births Jun 1917
    Harding Robert F, Nye, Fulham, 1a 458
    Births Mar 1918
    Harding Robert F, Smith, W.Derby 8b 362
    Births Sep 1921
    Harding Robert F, Spicer, Kingston 2a 791

    Many thanks Gents,

I'm trying to pin down the New Zealand connection for a 'Flight Lieutenant R. F. Harding of Wanganui' who is mentioned in a 1967 New Zealand Press Association item headlined London, March 27. In the item Harding is described as a member of Bomber Command's 9 Squadron who flew in an inter-squadron competition that same month. There is no R. F. Harding to be found in the RAF Air Force Lists of the period and a search of the London Gazette using the above-mentioned Corporal Harding's number does not record that man as ever being commissioned - but I wonder if the NZPA got the rank wrong and Flight Sergeant was intended instead of Flight Lieutenant. The mystery continues!

    Chees,
    Errol
