    Default Pilot info needed

    Hi,

    Looking for details on five 218 Squadron pilots who made fleeting appereances in 1941. Sadly not much details.

    Sergeant Kaarsberg
    Sergeant Workman
    Sergeant Chidgey
    Sergeant Pape
    Sergeant Skett


    Any help very much appreciated.

    The crew carried out there first operation on April 20th 1941 against the Dock Area of Rotterdam. There followed a further 20 operations with various crew changes, however the core of the crew (Chidgley, Bridewell, Spong andAlexander) remained unchanged. Sgt Chidgey completed his 1st tour on July 24th 1941, having completed 29 operations. He went on to marry in March 1943 a WAAF he meet at No. 27 OTU. His second tour was with No. 35 PFF Squadron were he eventually obtained the rank of acting Sq/Ldr. and was awarded the DSO and DFC. He died in 2006.

    War Service Dress Blouse, New Pattern, Size 9. Belonged to Sqn Ldr Bernal Pape DFC. Jacket is clean and in very good condition with some signs of wear on the right cuff and above the right chest pocket. Black King's Crown buttons, King's Crown wings, Flight Lieutenant shoulder rank with Volunteer Reserve brass badges (split pin). Medal ribbons for DFC, 39/45 Star, Aircrew Europe, Burma, Italy, Defence and War medals. Comes with 2 A4 sheets (copies) outlining his RAF service. Pape flew with 218 Squadron in 1941 (Wellingtons). He became an instructor with 27 OTU and 18 OTU where he took part in the thousand bomber raids over Cologne and Essen. In 1943 he went to 166 Squadron taking command of 'A' Flight. He converted to Lancasters and went on to complete his second tour of operations. Also included are his London Gazette Entries and a 166 Squadron King's Crown badge.

    George William Workman, F/Sgt. 923432, RAF, 2nd Pilot, 21, KFA,17-8-1942 Oxford DF412 of 1527 Flight, buried France Lynch (St John the Baptist) Churchyard

    Hi all,

    Given the greatful help with the first batch of pilots, I am hoping I can ask for assistance with the following, all were pilots with 218 Squadron April - Oct 1941.

    Sgt Rose
    Sgt Reid
    Sgt Huckle
    Sgt Foster
    Sgt Richardson R. E ?
    Sgt Paterson

    All served briefly, but sadly no other details.
