    During the approach to Nairobi, a Hawker Hurricane (281) crashed, fatally injuring the pilot Lt CT Gould.

    Five days later on 21.9.40 the same crew all reported as pow's after attack on Massawa in Blenheim T2061.
    (Bomber Losses ME and Mediterranean p26 advises 21.9.40 -14 Squadron

    His death was announced in the Aberdeen Weekly News, December 12th 1940:

    CHEYNE - died on injuries on active service, Sergeant James Linklater Birnie, Royal Air Force, aged 23 years, youngest son of John S. B. Cheyne, Toronto, Canada, and Mrs. Cheyne, 10 Whitehill Place, Aberdeen.

    Note that it states 'died of injuries.'

    Bomber losses of ’Mediterranean vol 1
    Says “died natural causes in captivity”

    I suspect he died as a result of injuries received in either force Landing or combat (flak?) on Blenheim T2021 on 21 Sept 1940

    No cause of death but at least

    Full Name: Pieter John Warden

    Born 11 Oct 1919

    According to Clipped wings vol 2 he was killed In an accident to an unidentified SAAF Hart of Central Flying school Kimberley on this date


    He was the handling pilot and killed the other crew member was uninjured

    85 Years SAAF identifies it A Hart 331

    Also

    A Hawker Hart I (331), was involved in an accident in the Kimberly area, fatally injuring 2 Lt PJ Warden, the second crew member survived the accident. (A/I)
