Default 751663 LAC Laurence Dacre Stratford 11/1/1940

Can anyone fill in the crash details ie unit, a/c etc. Buried at Worthing, death registered at Neath. Death date is 11/2/1940 not January as in the heading

His CWGC grave registration details lists his unit as 7 AGS - Air Gunners School.

    Pete

Westland Wallace K4340 went into the water at Margam Ranges on this day. I have two fatalities recorded against this a/c, CP Seymour-Smith and LD Stratford.

Margam was certainly within the Neath registration district at the time.

There was another 7BGS accident which involved Henley L3339 which crashed in the Porthcawl area on the same day, JN Thornewill and RH Lemon being killed . However Porthcawl, although being close by, was not in the Neath district.

    Does this help?

    regards

There is a little detail about the incident in this Stormy Down book Pete (Page 12)

    https://www.scribd.com/doc/297382842...stormy-airbase

THE STORY OF A SOUTH WALES WARTIME TRAINING AERODROME, STORMY DOWN Raymond E Cottrell

Later that day Fg Off G Smith was flying Wallace K4340 over the range at Margam sands with trainee air gunner LAC Stratford on an air experience flight. The Wallace stalled at a low altitude and dived into the ground and burned out, killing both.
