    INQUEST DISCLOSURES
    Evidence that he had been unhappy because he had been confined to barracks,
    was given at the inquest at Fareham yesterday afternoon on Aircraftman James Edward Giddings
    RA.F. (24), single, stationed in the Gosport district, and living at 23, Bath Road, Warminster, who was found dead on the
    beach Hill Head last Friday morning. The Coroner (Major G. H. Warner) found that Giddings
    put himself into the sea with the intention of taking his life.” He said that in arriving at this verdict he took into
    consideration the fact that Giddings’s cap, greatcoat, and gas mask were found neatly folded up
    near the body, and that Giddings had been depressed. Pilot Officer A. E. Sloecombe said that Giddings had
    had a little trouble and had been confined to barracks for a fortnight, and Aircraftman D. Whatley said that when he
    saw Giddings last Thursday he was rather unhappy. Giddings was conscientious and felt the punishment
