    Hello David,

    Aircraftman 2nd class = AC2c

Don't know about these days but Daily Rate of pay for Tradesmen & Air Crew was as follows
    Group 1 = 3 shillings & 9 pence.
    Group II = 3 shillings & 6 pence.
    Group III = 3 shillings.
    Group IV = 3 shillings & 3 pence.
    Group V = 2 shillings.
    Group M = 2 shillings.

The Groups were different due to the different trades followed by the aircraft man.
Group 1 were such as fitters and radio mechanics
Group II were welders and Photographers.
Group III were Balloon riggers and Parachute repairers.
Group IV were Clerks and Teleprinter operators.
Group V were Batmen and Pigion Keepers.
Group M were Nursing Orderly and Dental Mechanics.

The Groups were the same for all except that the daily rate increased up to -
    AC1c started wit Group I at 4 shillings & 6 pence.
    Up to -
    Warrant Officer
    Group M = from 13 shillings & 6 pence
Up to 16 shillings & 6 pence for Warrant Officer Air Observer.

    Ref for above is -
"ABC of the RAF" published by The Amalgamated Press Ltd, preface by ACM Sir Charles Portal KCB, DSO, MC.

    Hi Alex

The problem is that the RAF itself never used that abbreviation, simply AC1 and AC2, that used in the book was the publishers abbreviation.
