Default 408 Sq RCAF Hampdes individual letters

    Hi all,

I would like to ask if anyone would be able to add individual letters to Hampdens of 408 Squadron RCAF which were used in operational service in summer 1942:

    Hampden AT178/EQ-?
    Hampden AT143/EQ-?

    TIA

    Hi Pavel,
A hand written "O" has been added to the Form 541 for AT143 in August 1942 as below link

Plenty of references to AT178 but no code letter.
    Alan.

    Well spotted Alan! Thank you.
I have checked the ORB also but was not so lucky to find it!

Pavel. AT-178 carried Letter J. L-4042 and AT-143 carried the Letter O at the same time, so one would of been O2 or O bar.

Richard, thank you for info - now I am able to decipher the writing which was not readable for me in the ORB - it is "bar".
Do you know how it looks? A bar under or above the letter?

But after some additional search I am more confused...
    Few examples:

    AT197 "N" bar

    L4042 "J" not "O"
    http://heritage.canadiana.ca/view/oo...4/1838?r=0&s=3

    AT143 "O"

Pavel. As they collapsed the squadron from 3 flights to 2, they recoded some of the aircraft to get rid of two aircraft with the same letter.

Thank you Richard, well it seems to me I have to study the ORB a little bit more... I was not aware of 3 flights.
I have found out so far that I am interested in those letter for the May and begin of June 1942.
