Default Flt Lt Basil Gotto 100 Squadron Vildebeest POW

    Hi guys

    One for our geneologists!

Basil Gotto flew Vildebeest in Singapore/Malaya/Java 1941-42 before becoming a POW.

My enquiry concerns his private life. It is written that he was the son of the distinguished British artist/sculptor of the same name - Basil Gotto, but I can't find confirmation. Also, it is believed that he had a daughter but I can't find a wife!

    Any help appreciated.

    Cheers
    Brian

Basil (senior) married Sybil, daughter of Sir Ellis Ashmead Bartlett (M.P.) in 1913. They had two sons.

    Brian,
No, not quite 'yes'. I found that the sculptor/photograper had two sons but have not seen their names so am not able to confirm if one is your man. It gives you a starting point but sadly not the final answer.

    Default Basil Gotto

    Hi Bruce

'My' Basil Gotto's second given name was Ashmead, so I think that is fairly conclusive!

    Cheers, my friend
