Default Couple of questions about a photo of an R.C.A.F. Corporal

    Hello everyone

A little challenge for you this festive period.

I've inherited the family photo collection after my mother died earlier this year, and amongst the various photos I found one I think is of James Napier Haswell, my mother's cousin, b. Sunderland in 1912. He in an R.C.A.F. Corporal's uniform (his family emigrated there before WW1), and there's a Halifax Mk.II in the background. So, first up, where was this taken? There are some low hills in the right-hand background, so is it Middleton St. George, or possbily Croft?

Secondly, I'm none too familiar with finding out about R.C.A.F. service numbers or records - is there an equivalent to Air 78 for R.C.A.F. personnel?

    Regards

    Simon

Is that a torpedo, or mine, in the frame trolley behind his head? Might narrow it down?

Isn't it an oxygen (or other gas?) tank on a trolley?

    Hello,

Looks like an oxygen/gas cylinder to me. Note the number on the trailer in the background, could be 425 (Squadron), at Tholthorpe.

Good spot Col - I'd not noticed that!
