Default 156 Squadron ND466 Martin 'Tino' Becker night fighter war diaries claim

31 March 1944 Lancaster ND466 flown by S/L Goodwin is frequently allocated as shot down by Martin Becker 20th kill incl BCL
Dr Boitens work records the 20th kill against a 427 Sqd Halifax LV898
Can anyone unpick this or advise if my interpretations here are wrong please.

    Hi Colin,

I have sent your request to Theo Boiten direct. He may come back to you on the forum or come back to me via email. I suspect that the loss of 156 Sqn ND466 could be a typo on the claim by Lt Hans Raum of 9./NJG3 at 00.25 which has the loss as ND406 which has also been listed as a claim by Oblt Gunther Koberich of 6./NJG2 at 00.47.

    I’ll let you know.

    Cheers,

    John.

    Hi Colin,

In the re-analysis of the 30-31.43.1944 raid during the research for the Nachtjagd Combat Archive series I have now matched the loss of ND466 to the following claim:

    Lt. Joachim Hanss: 7 Stab I./NJG5 Lancaster Erfurt area: 5.600 m. 01.07 156 Sqn Lancaster ND466

    Cheers, Theo

    Hello Theo.
Clearly a long standing situation exists where ND466 has/is credited to the 20th kill to Becker.
A note from a crew member of ND466 which I think is Z Zebra quotes 'At 0051 shot down by fighters at Eisfelt 60 miles north of target aircraft went out of control into a spiral dive then blew up'.
Does this fit within your deductions and allocation to Joachim Hanss, clearly you have done a lot of work to plot these losses. It would be good to know how you came to the deduction and I hope this information resolves the matter further.

    Hi Colin,

I have a crash time of 01.10 hrs -within this time frame only the Hanss claim fits. It was certainly not Becker's 20th claim, this was:

    Oblt. Martin Becker: 20 2./NJG6 Halifax 5-40 km SW Köln (NO): 5.400 m. 00.20 427 Sqn Halifax LV898

Becker had one Abschuss within the time frame of around 01.00 hrs:

    Oblt. Martin Becker: 25 2./NJG6 Halifax Wahlen, 10 km NW Alsfeld (NT 7): 5.200 m 00.50 51 Sqn Halifax LW544

    Cheers, Theo
