Default South African Air Force Aircraft Accident Records: 1943-45

I am trying to compile a record of SAAF training aircraft losses in South Africa between 1943 and VE-Day. I have gathered information from the Air Britain monographs on the Anson and Oxford and a very useful source is: "85 Years of the South African Air Force" by Winston Brent.

I understand that the individual aircraft accident details are held in hard copy in South Africa and hence are not available on line. I have emailed the SAAF Museum but have received no response.

Might there be a South African enthusiast on this site who would like to join this project and get a 'By Line' when the results are published? Alternatively, can anybody point me towards other sources, please?

    Hello,

Not the ORBs themselves, but a very useful guide, compiled by Ross McNeill:

    Gentlemen,

Thank you for your advice - as always interesting takes and valuable lines to be pursued, which I shall do.

Having just published a third volume of training losses in the war, the final volume is going to be the most difficult to compile. Before his death, Bill Walker had completed the Canadian section (which is now being continued in Canada if I need to update Bill's work) and I am fairly confident that from the advice given by Col Bruggy and Errol Martyn, I shall be able to make a reasonable fist of RAAF and RNZAF losses in the 1943-45 period. South Africa and the USA are my areas of real concern but I shall be following up on your advice. Thank you all and I appreciate your help.

Ah well, there was a not very impressive Ad in FLYPAST announcing the book was coming and there will be another much better Ad in FLYPAST in a couple of weeks but the books suddenly arrived from the printers before I really expected them. It's already listed on a certain well known website (but only after I took a Master's degree in 'convoluted thinking' so that I could understand their new system).

I'd tell you more but I'll be banned for advertising!!!!
