    Default Fl Donald Andrew VR-161725

Sgt Donald Andrew was posted from 65 sqn for overseas on 21-12-42. He was a Spitfire pilot. He possibly came from the Yorkshire area. Do you know his DOB and birth place and sub-secant sqn postings please. Many thanks, Roy

    Hello Roy,

    A possibility:

A Sgt D ANDREW was posted in to No.229 Sqn (Krendi, Malta), on 27 February, 1943. As a F/Sgt, he claimed a Bf 110 (over Comiso airfield), on 12 July, 1943. Andrew was flying Spitfire VC JK811:X-F, the Bf 110 was reportedly from II./ZG 1.

    and ...

    MAW4/Shores et al/Grub Street,2018/pp.185, 188 & 191 (the Bf 110 claim, not substantiated here [p.191]).

    F/Sgt Donald ANDREW 1123396 was commissioned (161725), on 26 October, 1943.

    Hi Roy ,

Don Andrew arrived at No 5 PAFU from No 3 PRC , and attended No 9 Course from 2/6/42- this course left No 5 PAFU between 23/6/42 to 30/6/42 , i suspect Don Andrew left in the earlier batch and arrived at no 53 OTU and poss attended Course no 21 which ran from late June 42 until 22/9/42 , he arrived at No 65 Sqd on the 29/9/42 , i cannot confirm at this stage his attendance on No 21 Course at 53 OTU as my course date are a little erratic at 53 OTU during this period

As you know he claimed a Me110 on the 12/7/43 , then on the 16/9/44 he was slightly injured when Spitfire AB511 of 611 Sqd Overshot Landing and struck MH333 While Don Andrew was in Cockpit .

He later went to 57 OTU as a F/O in Dec 44 then by May 45 was with 12 FU .

    Hope this helps

    bw Phill Jones

    Phill,

When rendering aircraft serials , could you please not break up the serials, ie, AB 511 and MH 333, it restricts finding these aircraft on searches. Better to use AB511 and MH333.
