Default No. 1699 (Fortress Training) Flight

Spinoff request from a current thread, Fortress I AN520 is shown as assigned to No. 1699 (Fortress Training) Flight after being assigned to 214 Sqn.

Can someone please confirm if the Flight was also at Oulton and on what date is was formed?

    TIA.

    Thanks Mojmir and Pavel.

Checked the Fortress I Form 59s and Fortress IIA/II Form 78s and found only Fortress Is AN520 and AN537 allocated in turn to 214 Sqn and 1699 Flt.

    Hi Robert

Anything in particular you're interested in regarding 1699 Flt?

Only asking because somewhere I've got a few pictures of some pages about them from TNA. From memory I think it was some monthly statistical figures. Can't recall precisely but I think it may have been some monthly stats of their training programme throughput. Something pretty obscure anyway. I know there's a few files about them up at Kew, although I've never looked at them.

    Thanks for asking, Ian.

Am updating my Coastal Command Fortress book and realized I had overlooked 1699 Flight as a recipient of former CC airframes. As noted I've identified two Mk Is and found none identified for Mk IIAs and II. So would be interested in identifying any others although I have my doubts the unit received II/IIAs per the reference quoted by Mojmir.

    Hi Robert.
Pretty sure that 1699 had some Fortress IIs (B-17Fs) but I think they were cast-offs from 214 Sqn, not ex-CC.

    Hi Robert

To add to the contributions above, after a quick dig looking for aircraft serving with 1699 Flight, located the following ten Fortress serials from Air Britain publications:-

Look forward to seeing your revised book on Coastal Command Fortresses in due course.

    Kind regards
    Pierre

    Thanks Ian and Pierre.

Ah yes, was not thinking outside the box! I should have said: .... I have my doubts the unit received any former Coastal Command II/IIAs.
