Default Sierżant Stefan NIEDBAL, 703782, 300 Sqn

    Hello everyone

I wondered if any of our Polish experts could give me some more details about Szt. Stefan Niedbal, who served with 300 Squadron?

    https://listakrzystka.pl/en/niedbal-stefan/

I've had a look through the 300 O.R.B. on the National Archives website, and it seems he often flew as Navigator in the crew of Henryk Rudakowski:

    https://listakrzystka.pl/en/rudakows...yk-anatoliusz/

Rudakowski was lost along with his crew in Lancaster LM632 on April 10th 1945, but Niedbal wasn't flying with him on that date.

I do know that he was at the Polish Hospital at Gallowhill, Morpeth in early 1948 being treated for TB, as he wrote a letter on January 23rd 1948 to the family of Stanislaw Piatkowski who had died there on January 15th informing them of his death.

On findagrave.com there is a Stefan Niedbal recorded as dying in Poland in August 1949. Is this possibly him?

    https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/164368258

There is also a Stefan Niedbal on the marriage register in March 1954 in Derby.

    Many thanks,

    Regards

    Simon

    Hi Simon,
Sgt nav. Stefan Niedbal was posted from 1 LFS at Hemswell to 300 Squadron at Faldingworth with the crew of Henryk Rudakowski on 25.11.1944.
Until 01.03.1945 he took part in 17 bombing operations. On 05.03.1945 he was transferred to 14 Base as Non-Effective (Sick).
It seems that he never returned to his parent unit as there`s no mention of him in squadron`s daily orders after that date.

Unfortunately I haven`t found any trace of Stefan Niedbal in Polish grave websites.
As there`s no info on his death date on Krzystek`s list (the list of PAF personnel), I think that he may have stayed in UK after the war hence no information on him in Poland.

    Regards,
    Greg

Thank you for your replies. I was told he signed the letter Stefan J. Niedbal, so it looks like we might have our man.

    Regards

    Simon
